An exciting new chapter is unfolding for families on the Mid-North Coast. The Port Macquarie Steiner School’s purpose-built Thrumster campus – just minutes from The Sanctuary – is set to open in the second half of 2026.
Located on Birpai Country, this thoughtfully designed new campus represents far more than expanded facilities — it reflects a deep commitment to nurturing children in harmony with nature, creativity and community.
Growing with Intention
Since beginning as a small playgroup in 2016, Port Macquarie Steiner School has grown into a thriving Kindergarten to Year 6 learning community. As enrolments increased and the vision expanded, the need for a purpose-designed campus became clear.
The four-acre Thrumster site on John Oxley Drive will allow the school to fully realise the principles of Steiner education: spacious classrooms filled with natural light, meaningful outdoor learning areas, gathering spaces for festivals and performances, and environments that support the development of the whole child — head, heart and hands.

The turning of the soil ceremony took place at the new campus location on Friday 28 November. School Founder Alanna Alfaro with MP Pat Conaghan and Business Development Manager Mel Ayris.
When complete, the campus will include:
- Purpose-built classrooms
- A library and administration building
- A multipurpose hall for community events
- Outdoor play spaces and a courtyard amphitheatre
- Landscaped grounds that invite imagination and connection
Designed to sit gently within its natural surroundings, the campus reflects Steiner education’s reverence for rhythm, beauty and belonging.
A Space for Children to Flourish
At full capacity, the new campus will support around 170 students and 20 staff — offering a close-knit, community-focused educational experience.
Steiner education is grounded in the belief that children thrive when learning is experiential, creative and connected to the natural world. The new campus has been designed to embody this philosophy in every detail — from the architecture to the gardens.
As construction progresses throughout 2026, anticipation continues to build for what will become a vibrant educational sanctuary for generations of families in the region.
Growing Together as a Community
At The Sanctuary, we celebrate spaces that nurture growth, connection and a sense of belonging — values beautifully reflected in the new Steiner campus. For families who are drawn to holistic living, nature-rich environments and intentional community, the arrival of this campus strengthens the educational fabric of our region.
The opening of the Thrumster campus is more than a school expansion — it’s another step toward cultivating a community where children can grow grounded, creative and confident. It is a reminder that when learning and environment are thoughtfully aligned, both families and communities flourish.
